Midwifery is a field of medical science and health care that deals with pregnancy, childbirth, and counseling on the health of women and infants. Midwifery is a valuable and responsible profession that plays an important role in improving the quality of health services. Midwives must have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform examinations, diagnose, prescribe medications, perform natural childbirth, and manage medical emergencies. They must also be able to advise and educate women and families on nutrition, health, family planning, genetics, and mental health.

Midwifery is a popular field of study for women at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral levels in Iranian medical universities. To enter this field, one must participate in the nationwide university entrance exam in the science group and obtain a suitable rank. The duration of study is 4 years for the Bachelor’s degree, 2 years for the Master’s degree, and 4 years for the Doctoral degree. During their studies, students must take theoretical and practical courses and complete various internships.
